This past week the Roadway and Smart City teams “hung ten” in San Diego at this year's IES Street and Area Light Conference (SALC). The conference is the only one of its kind, dedicated to improving the outdoor lighting business of electric utilities and energy service companies.

This week we announced the new name of our business: GE Current a Daintree company.

A big congrats to the Facebook team for bringing in two $500K orders for two new large office buildings located in Menlo Park, CA. The offices will be decked out with our Daintree Enterprise Lighting Controls across ~480,000 sq. ft. of space. The project is currently in progress and the controls will be installed beginning at the end of October and are slated to be completed late April of next year.

Last week, you received an email with a link to complete a brief survey. The survey covers similar topics to the earlier version we rolled out in December of last year but is also designed to check our collective understanding of the new Operating Agenda and help us communicate as effectively as possible. This past week, the Latin America team came together with Current leadership for a LEAN process mapping event to help define and develop a new ITO/OTR integrated process. The team mapped out the entire process from lead generation to project execution using a LEAN visual tool which helped recognize gaps and areas for improvement. By agreeing upon necessary steps in the proposal creation process, the team can guarantee improved margins and competitive pricing to the business and our customers.

Current first started the conversation with the City of Schenectady all the way back in 2015, when we entered into an agreement to deploy 14 CityIQ nodes in the heart of the city. Shortly after the CityIQ node installation, a manhole cover exploded, and the city immediately asked Current to recover video footage from the incident for investigation purposes. Luckily no one was hurt, but the city recognized the power of the data we were collecting.

The Boston headquarters is moving on up... literally! As many know, the team has been working out of a small, temporary WeWork space since the business began and finally moved into the top floor of an actual office building (a less expensive one too)! Five years ago, the City of Detroit upgraded roughly 30,000 lights to Leotek’s LED fixtures. However, over the last six months the lights started to fail in a catastrophic way. Since Current is a trusted advisor to the city due to a great relationship with one of our utility agents, Elus, the City of Detroit reached out and asked our team to assess Leotek’s LEDs to help understand why the lights were failing.
