Five years ago, the City of Detroit upgraded roughly 30,000 lights to Leotek’s LED fixtures. However, over the last six months the lights started to fail in a catastrophic way. Since Current is a trusted advisor to the city due to a great relationship with one of our utility agents, Elus, the City of Detroit reached out and asked our team to assess Leotek’s LEDs to help understand why the lights were failing.
Current concluded that due to engineering problems in the product, the LEDs started burning holes through the acrylic housing of the lights. This caused a public safety issue, as having burnt out lights in a city can be dangerous for citizens at night. That’s when Current stepped in. Over the past month Current has installed 6,500 Evolve LED Cobraheads on some of Detroit’s main streets. Great work to our Roadway team for converting a customer by helping solve a problem!
