Global Holiday Awareness

At Current, we're spread around the world, but we all share an appreciation for the moments that bring people together. For our colleagues in Mexico, mid-September marks one of the most important celebrations of the year: Independence Day.

Global Holiday Awareness_2

On the night of September 15, families and communities gather in town squares as the clock nears 11 p.m. That's when the President of Mexico re-enacts the historic “Grito de Dolores” — the cry for freedom that launched the country's independence movement in 1810. Fireworks light up the skies, plazas fill with music and dancing, and streets shine in red, white, and green. The celebration continues into September 16, honoring Mexico's resilience, pride, and unity.

Did You Know?

  • The tradition of the “Grito” begins with the ringing of the same bell Father Miguel Hidalgo rang in 1810.
  • It's common to hear “¡Viva México!” shouted three times during the celebration — a call of national pride.
  • One of the most beloved Independence Day dishes is pozole, a hominy and meat stew that dates back to pre-Hispanic times.
A Note of Celebration

To our colleagues in Mexico: ¡Feliz Día de la Independencia! Thank you for sharing your culture, your energy, and your spirit with all of us. May your celebrations be filled with pride, joy, and togetherness.

Here's to celebrating freedom, community, and the ties that connect us across every border.

Tips for Working Globally:
  • Respect OOO replies—our inboxes will wait.
  • Try “delay send” when emailing across time zones.
  • If you're scheduling meetings, keep in mind that local offices may be closed for the holiday.

Work-Life Balance: Protect Your Time Like Your Life Depends On It

Let's be honest—no one's handing you extra hours in the day. If you don't draw the line, the line gets erased. Work-life balance isn't about working less, it's about refusing to burn yourself out for the illusion of productivity.

Boundaries are not luxuries, they're survival skills. Protecting your time is the smartest kind of time management, because exhaustion doesn't win awards, but clarity, energy, and resilience do.

And guess what? Even our busiest leaders are proving it can be done:

Work-Life Balance_2
  • Bobby Simpson takes two 15-minute pauses—one in the morning, one in the afternoon—sitting in silence and focusing on sddimple gratitude. It's not complicated, but it resets his perspective and re-centers his day.
  • Barry Webb locks in a 45-minute gym session, sharpening both body and mind.
  • Jacob Roxon powers through boxing and rowing, flipping stress into energy.
  • Jason Sherrill guards 90 minutes with his kids—non-negotiable connection time.
  • Mike Turner admits he's not always the best at disconnecting, but he makes sure to shut his phone off for an hour after work to focus on family—and sneaks in neighborhood walks when he can.
  • Shannon Thomas recharges with fresh-air walks before and after dinner with her dog, a daily reset that helps her notice the beauty of the day.
  • Susy Gallardo recharges in the kitchen, cooking meals that fuel both body and soul.
  • Courtney Abraham taps into cardio for creativity, letting walking, jogging, or cycling spark ideas when her mind drifts into daydream mode.
  • Sergio Solis cranks heavy metal on his commute, turning traffic into therapy.
  • Jason Fokens layers in breaks throughout his day—lunch without work, five-minute pauses every couple of hours, silent drives home, and quality time with family and exercise after work.
  • Steve Harris resets through physical activity—especially in competitive settings where focus, energy, and drive are tested. For him, challenge isn't just an outlet, it's a reset button.

Different routines. Same truth: stepping away is how you come back stronger. Here's the real shocker: if you don't protect your time, no one else will. So build your “disconnect habit,” defend it like oxygen, and make it non-negotiable.
