Strengthening Leadership, One Skill at a Time
One of the highest rated items on our engagement survey this year was Personal and Professional Development, coming in at a whopping 8.49 out of 10!
Exciting News! 🎉 We've just launched a brand-new learning series for our managers, and it's all about making learning fun and impactful. Learning is a lifelong adventure that transforms how we think, act, and solve problems. While some of you may be you-tubing how to fix a running toilet, or perfect a DIY haircut, this edition of our People Leader Series helps our participants embrace new challenges and unlock new ideas.

The first session, “Mastering Communication as a Leader,” was facilitated by Dave Donlin, from our Global Operations and SC Team, who brought real-world insights, practical strategies, and meaningful stories to the (virtual) table. Participants explored how communication drives trust, influence, and connection.

Earth Day Celebrated April 22

Earth Day reminds us that small, conscious actions can collectively create a big impact. Each of us can contribute by reducing our environmental impact through everyday actions like recycling, conserving energy, and reducing waste. Are you looking for new tips to make a difference?
Eco-consciousness and Sustainability at Current
Are you Breaking the Law by Failing to Recycle?
In many regions around the world there are laws that require individuals and companies alike to recycle common items. Some places enforce landfill bans, meaning certain recyclable materials cannot be thrown away.

In North Carolina, certain materials are required to be recycled due to statewide landfill bans and environmental regulations. Some of the key items include:
| Aluminum Cans | Antifreeze | Electronics (computers, TVs, etc.) |
| Plastic Bottles | Fluorescent lights and thermostats containing mercury | Lead-acid batteries |
| Yard Waste | Whole scrap tires | White goods (appliances) |
NC businesses and state agencies are also required to recycle office paper, newspaper, glass, and plastic bottles. This is also true in Quebec, Canada.
In Mexico there are laws that promote the separation and recycling of waste. In Europe and China, not only is it illegal to throw away plastic bottles, but plastic bags are restricted too. Many areas are banning single-use items such as plastic bags, straws, six-pack rings, plastic cutlery, cups, and food takeout containers. These plastic items, manufactured from fossil fuels, can become a threat to biodiversity.
LED Light Bulb Replacement Campaign at Tijuana Plant
To reduce energy consumption and promote environmental sustainability, the EHS Department at our Tijuana plant organized a campaign inviting employees to replace incandescent light bulbs in their homes with energy-efficient LED bulbs. Employees brought their old bulbs to the site and exchanged them for LED bulbs provided by the company.
The campaign saw participation from over 120 employees, resulting in the distribution of more than 1,130 LED bulbs. This initiative not only aims to reduce electricity usage but also helps employees save on their household energy bills.

Part 2 - Scams: Protecting from Fraud in the Digital Age
Learn how to avoid scams and understand how Current protects us at work.
5. Romance
Finding love in all the wrong places…These scams can be emotionally devastating, as well as financially harmful. Romance scams occur when fraudsters create fake online profiles to build relationships with victims. Over time, they manipulate victims into sending money, often under the guise of a financial emergency or need.

Avoid:
- Someone you’ve never met asks for $$.
- They fail to turn on their camera in a video chat or avoid meeting in person.
- If something feels off, it probably is.
What Current Does:
- Current blocks many social media sites that are frequently targets of romance scams.
- We flag external emails to alert our users of suspicious senders.
6. Impersonation
Fraudsters impersonate someone you know, like a friend, family member, or colleague, and ask for money or personal information. These scams often take place via email or text, with the scammer claiming to be in an emergency situation, needing money urgently, or requesting gift cards.

Avoid:
- Sending without verifying. Contact the person directly through a trusted method to verify the request.
- Never send $$ without confirming the details.
- Set up unique security questions with loved ones to prevent impersonation.
What Current Does:
- Managers will not ask their team members to purchase gift cards or send money.
- Current’s email security scans identities to determine messages that are impersonating known contacts.
7. Investment and Cryptocurrency Scams
Investment scams involve fraudulent schemes where scammers promise high returns on investment opportunities, often in the form of fake stocks or cryptocurrency. They prey on individuals looking for ways to grow their money quickly, but their goal is to steal your money, not make you rich. They may pay an actual initial return and then ask for more $$ to keep the high returns

Avoid:
- Investment opportunities that sound too good to be true.
- Research any investment thoroughly and consult with a financial advisor before making any decisions.
- Be cautious of pressure tactics that urge you to act quickly or make hasty decisions.
- Avoid unregulated investments, especially in the cryptocurrency space, if you are unfamiliar with the investment.
What Current Does:
- Current monitors and blocks crypto emails and websites with our security tools.
8. Charity Scams
Scammers often prey on your goodwill by pretending to represent a charity in need of donations. They may exploit current events, like natural disasters or humanitarian crises, to tug at your heartstrings and pressure you into making an impulsive donation.

Avoid:
- Donate directly to well-known charities or use platforms like Charity Navigator to check a charity’s legitimacy.
- Be wary of unsolicited phone calls or emails asking for donations.
- Never send money via wire transfer to a charity you haven’t verified.
What Current Does:
- Current announces common charity drives and activities.
Final Thoughts: Stay Informed and Vigilant to Protect Yourself from Scams.
The best defense against scams is knowledge and vigilance. Always trust your instincts—if something feels off, take a moment to investigate before acting.
Protect your online accounts with complex, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible.
Remember, if an offer or request seems too good to be true, it probably is. Protect your personal information, be cautious online, and stay aware of the tactics fraudsters use to deceive others. Always think twice before sharing sensitive information or sending money to anyone online. If you have any questions or need any help with downloads, please contact the Helpdesk or submit a Summit ticket.

Global Holiday Awareness
At Current we celebrate the diversity of holidays across regions — and this May, several countries are marking Labor Day in their own unique ways. Here’s a quick tour of how some of our teammates across the world are pressing pause to recognize the value of work, balance, and well-being.
Mexico – May 1 & 2: Día del Trabajo
A two-day national holiday observed by all employees, this is a time to honor workers' rights and the contributions of the labor force.
Fun fact: Mexico’s labor movement was inspired by the Cananea Strike of 1906 — one of the earliest organized efforts that would influence the 1917 Constitution, which became the first in the world to enshrine social rights like the 8-hour workday.

China – May 1 to 5: Labor Holiday Week
A full five-day holiday means one thing: travel surge. Tourist sites get festive, trains get packed, and the country buzzes with celebration. Did you know? In 2023, over 270 million trips were taken during this break. That’s nearly the entire population of Indonesia on the move in just five days — making it one of the largest annual human migrations on earth.

United Kingdom – May 6: Early May Bank Holiday
Rooted in both springtime customs and labor recognition.
Fun fact: In some UK towns, the old-school tradition of “crowning the May Queen” still happens — and in Oxford, people gather at dawn on Magdalen Bridge to hear a centuries-old choir performance before diving into a full English breakfast. Yes, really.

How to Be Globally Thoughtful
✔ Check Out-of-Office Notices – Some colleagues may be offline.
✔ Use Delay Send – Schedule emails at a considerate time.
✔ Plan Smart – Keep these observances in mind when setting meetings and deadlines.
To all our colleagues celebrating around the world — Happy Labor Day!
Take this time to rest, reflect, and recharge. Your work matters, and so does your well-being.
