A Career Legacy – Peter Howe

If you’ve ever walked through the halls of our Plympton site, you’ve likely crossed paths with Peter Howe. Peter Howe’s story at Current is one of hard work, growth, and family ties that span generations. Not just as a manufacturing engineer, but as a living thread in the fabric of this company. Peter started at Current (formerly Litecontrol) in the summer of 1981, when he was just fifteen, in an early internship experience in maintenance. Meanwhile, his father—a head welder and lead set-up floor person—was a fixture on the factory floor. “As I grew up, I saw my dad’s passion and drive for work, and it inspired me to want the same,” Peter shares. “He was always the first one in, never called in sick, and worked until he was 80.”

By the mid 80’s, Peter had moved into engineering, helping to develop new products and contribute to the company’s growth. Over the years, he witnessed expansion, changes in ownership, and advancements in technology. His commitment to the company and team has never wavered. “This company has provided stability and opportunities, not just for me but for my family,” he shared. “It allowed me to advance in my career while supporting my wife, Annette, and our two kids, Zachary and Miranda.” Reflecting on more than four decades of hard work, relationships, and milestones, Peter describes his journey in one word: rewarding. And after all these years, what he values most remains the same.

“The best part has always been the people—it feels like having a second family at work". His advice to those just starting their own journey? "Step forward, connect with people, and be open to growth—you never know where it will take you". A career like Peter’s isn’t just about time served. It’s about impact. And for nearly a century, the Howe name has left its mark—one weld, one blueprint, one generation at a time.

Global Holiday Awareness

As a global team, we recognize the unique holidays that bring meaning to different regions. This month, On Monday, February 17, many of our U.S. office colleagues and Canadian teammates will have a day off for two distinct but equally meaningful holidays.

President’s Day (U.S.) – A Tribute to Leaders
Originally created to honor George Washington’s birthday, President’s Day has since evolved into a celebration of all U.S. presidents—past and present. While some spend the day reflecting on history many take full advantage of the long weekend for travel, rest, or, let’s be honest—scoring major discounts on everything from electronics to cars!

Fun Facts:

It’s still officially called "Washington’s Birthday" by the U.S. government (even though it now honors multiple presidents).

Some states celebrate different presidents—Alabama honors Washington & Jefferson, while Arkansas adds Daisy Gatson Bates, a civil rights activist.

Not all U.S. colleagues will be off—some plants and operational sites will remain open. Check the Holiday calendar to learn more

Family Day (Canada) – A Holiday Made for Connection
Unlike most national holidays, Family Day wasn’t created to commemorate a historic event—it was created to give people a well-earned break in the middle of winter! First introduced in Alberta in 1990, it has since spread across several provinces, encouraging Canadians to slow down and spend time with loved ones. Whether it’s hitting the slopes, playing a game of pond hockey, or simply relaxing at home with a cozy movie marathon, Family Day is all about togetherness.

How to Stay Globally Thoughtful:

  • Check Out-of-Office Notices – Some colleagues may be offline.
  • Use Delay Send – Schedule emails at a considerate time.
  • Plan Smart – Keep these observances in mind when setting meetings and deadlines.

Wherever you are, we hope you take a moment to rest, reflect, and appreciate the people around you. Enjoy the long weekend, and we’ll see you back refreshed and recharged!
