Southwest Trailblazers Breakaway

We've had an early breakaway with Sara Hoff and the Southwest Trailblazers, raising $13,205 and clocking 513.5 miles in the saddle. With 14 days remaining in the challenge we can’t wait to see what this team accomplishes!

Round Rock Cyclones Chased the Carrot

Jodi Alston led a fierce team who hammered the Ks last week. No one was off the back in this 45-minute cycle thon. In one day, the Cyclones saw a 50% boost in donations, raising contributions to $1120. This was a full-blown rage cycle ride where everyone’s glow sticks guided the way. First place went to Ed Rivas for the highest number of miles (15). Second place went to Jay Colton for the lowest number of miles (5), perhaps due to bonking, and Katya Lobynicheva won for the most team spirit award.

Tijuana Sweeps the GCC

Our Tijuana site brought the challenge to the floor! They've made stationary bikes available on the production floor, where any of our employees in Tijuana can hop on as a solo rider or in a gaggle and log some miles to help us reach our goal.

Greenville Granny Gears to the Summit

GVL joined together in part one of a two-part ride. They left some serious sweat on the floor and look forward to cranking it up one more time this week.

Quick Tips

  1. Don’t forget to check those out-of-office replies from colleagues in Mexico and Canada
  2. Use “Delay Send” to keep emails landing at the right time.
Change of Executive Power: Mexico – October 1st.

October 1st, Mexico marks the Change of Executive Power, where the new President takes office. This tradition not only celebrates political change but also highlights the nation’s pride in its democratic values and the loyalty of the armed forces. The event features a grand military parade with marching bands and dazzling performances, showcasing Mexico’s commitment to a peaceful transition of power. After the official ceremony, you might find mariachi music filling the air and people enjoying delicious street foods like elotes (grilled corn), tacos al pastor, and churros!

Thanksgiving: Canada – October 14th.

On October 14th, our Canadian colleagues celebrate Thanksgiving—a day to give thanks, enjoy delicious feasts, and spend time with loved ones. This holiday is all about appreciating the harvest and all the good things in life.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Canadian Thanksgiving actually predates the American tradition? The first celebration was in 1578, when English explorer Martin Frobisher gave thanks for surviving his journey through the Arctic!

United Way of Henderson County Pledge Drive Event Kicks Off in September

pledge drive logo

Throughout the month of September, the employees at our Hendersonville site will have the opportunity to complete a pledge card to support non-profits in the community. The voluntary pledges collected this year will determine payroll deductions for the following year. At last year's event, employees pledged a total of $26,680.78 in donations, and we are sure this year will have a great turnout as well. We are very thankful for the commitment our employees show every day!

Cycling Lingo

It’s a whole new language out there when it comes to cycling.

cycle logo

Breakaway: the result of an attack. One cyclist, or a group of cyclists, escapes from the chasing pack and creates a gap for themselves.

Hammer: type of cycling that involves intense, high-intensity efforts for short periods of time. It is often used as a training technique to increase a cyclist’s fitness and power.

Crank: The act of pedaling a bicycle in a controlled and efficient manner.

Gaggle: group of riders.

Sweep: refers to a cyclist who rides at the back of a group ride, acting as a type of guardian for the rest of the riders. The sweep-rider is responsible for ensuring that no one gets left behind and that the group stays together.

Granny gear: the lowest gear ratio on a bike, with the smallest chainring in the front and the largest in the back. You would use the Granny Gear when cycling up a very steep hill to avoid overexerting yourself. So, just like an actual Granny, this gear ratio will keep you on the straight and narrow.

Ks: kilometers.

Chase the Carrot: Chasing a rider or group of riders at the front to prevent a breakaway.

Off the back: used to describe a rider not being able to keep pace with the main group of riders or peloton. If you’re ‘off the back’, you’re falling behind.

Bonking: one of the most common cycling expressions for people who have just lost all their energy – some cyclists liken it to the feeling of riding backward.

That’s all for this week!

We are thankful for the many contributions. The next currently is scheduled for distribution 10/01/2024.
