Happy Halloween

Did you know that Halloween is routed in Celtic tradition?  Many of the original customs have transformed over the years from saints and angels to superheroes, characters, and ghoulish figures. Join LUMEN and the Culture Committee online at 12 pm ET today for a virtual party

While Halloween is about tricks, treats, ghosts and scary movies, another holiday known as Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) should not be confused as one in the same.  This Mexican tradition is held in the first few days of November and is about celebrating loved ones who have died.   Dia de los Muertos is about the afterlife and remembrance. It is a sacred time for families as it gives them peace and reassurance.  Customs and traditions differ by region, but a few symbols are common throughout these celebrations.

Ofrendas (offerings) are the altars and centerpieces of the celebration. They are built inside homes, stores, cemeteries, and are meant to welcome spirits back to Earth. Cempasuchitl (marigolds) are the main flowers used to decorate altars. They are scattered across gravesites to guide wandering souls back to their stones.  Calaveras (skulls) are one of the most ubiquitous symbols of the holiday. The most popular, and remarkably elegant, is the Catrina skull. They can be made from wood, paper mâché, or sugar paste and are adorned with bright colors and sequins.

ETHICS AND INTEGRITY AWARENESS

This month we invite all employees to recommit to one of Current’s core values: Doing Right. You will be invited to increase your awareness and knowledge of our Code of Conduct, the Current Way, as well as several other important business policies that drive how we do business and treat each other.

Be on the lookout for invitations beginning November 13.  In addition, you will be assigned modules via Current’s KnowBe4 Learning Platform. (These are not spam!)  The modules, which will be sent to you via an email link, provide instruction about certain ethical challenges you may encounter in your role and will test your judgment in resolving them.  We expect you to complete these important education assignments on time.
